On 22 June the Prime Minister announced a full public inquiry into the events at Grenfell Tower, to be chaired by Sir Martin Moore-Bick. The Inquiry is designed to ascertain the causes of the tragedy and ensure that the appropriate lessons are learned.

In addition, the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government announced a new panel of independent experts to advise Government on the immediate action that is required so the public can be confident everything possible is being done to make sure all buildings are safe as quickly as possible. The panel will also be asked to consider whether there are any changes or clarifications required to existing regulations, and provide advice on possible changes.

In the meantime, residents are encouraged to remain vigilant to the risk of fire and undertake any necessary precautions, for example, checking that their smoke alarms are working.
