Forthcoming legislation on telecommunications security will ensure that there are appropriate reporting, compliance and enforcement arrangements in place in relation to the management and oversight of directions in relation to high risk vendors.

Subject to the passage of the forthcoming legislation, the Secretary of State will have the ability to make directions relating to high risk vendors in the UK 5G network, working alongside Ofcom, who may be asked to provide the Secretary of State with factual reports on operators’ use of high risk vendor products. The Secretary of State may choose to publish any reports, or a summary of such reports. The Secretary of State would also be responsible for taking forward enforcement action where necessary to ensure directions are adhered to.
