On 15 May, the United States Department of Commerce announced an extension of its sanctions against Huawei. It was clear that these were a very significant extension of the existing sanctions against Huawei.

In response, the National Cyber Security Centre launched an immediate review of the potential consequences of those sanctions on the security and resilience of the UK’s telecommunications infrastructure.

The position set out in the oral statement of 14 July 2020 takes full account of the consequences of the US sanctions against Huawei.
