Question to the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport:

To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, what her policy is on the ownership of employee data in the workplace.

The Data Protection Act 1998 (DPA) covers the processing of personal data. The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) is responsible for producing guidance for the general public, private and public sector organisations on information rights; this includes informing employees about their information rights and employers about their obligations under the DPA, when it comes to the processing of personal data. The ICO has produced guidance on the processing of employee data, on its website at:
