Question to the Home Office:
To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, what assessment she has made of the potential merits of allowing EU citizens to register and have processed through local authorities their permanent right to stay in the UK after the UK leaves the EU.
At present the UK remains in the EU, and as such, EU nationals continue to be subject to the rights and responsibilities set out in existing legislation which governs the exercise of free movement in the UK.
There are a number of options as to how EU migration might work once we have left. We are considering various options and it would be wrong to set out further positions at this stage.
