Question to the Home Office:

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, what the average time spent in detention by an asylum applicant was in each year from 2013 to 2017.

The information requested is not recorded on Home Office systems. We do report on the number of decisions made an asylum claims, and, separately, on the number of persons detained for immigration purposes.

However, we do not have a combined set of data which would allow the question to be answered, and to cross-match these data sets over the period requested (since January 2014) would require a manual data matching exercise.
