Question to the Department for Transport:

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, what assessment he has made of compliance with requirements (a) for sustainable development and (b) in the National Policy Statement for National Networks to give air quality considerations substantial weight of the potential Heathrow airport expansion.

The Airports Commission undertook a considerable amount of work to assess the air quality implications of the three shortlisted expansion schemes. The impact on local air quality and how this affects compliance with EU air quality standards is something the Government will be considering carefully when deciding on additional runway capacity.
