Question to the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy:

To ask the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, what assessment he has made of the effectiveness of the Pubs Code in meeting the objectives that have been set for it.

The Pubs Code is an important piece of legislation that is helping pub tenants get a fairer deal. From the first year data released by the Pubs Code Adjudicator (PCA) it is encouraging to see people are aware of, and beginning to exercise their rights under the Code and are contacting the PCA Enquiry Line for more information.

In the first 12 months since the Pubs Code became law the PCA has accepted 156 cases for arbitration and made awards in 48 cases. The PCA Enquiry Line has received more than 550 enquiries over the past year.
