NHS Digital publishes Hospital and Community Health Services workforce statistics. These include staff working in hospital trusts and clinical commissioning groups (CCGs), but not staff working in primary care, general practitioner surgeries, local authorities or other providers.

The following table shows the age profile and nationality of National Health Service midwives in hospitals and CCGs as at December 2019, the latest available data. Other and Unknown includes staff with a nationality group of European Economic Area, Rest of World or Unknown.
