A National Health Service walk-in centre is defined as a type 3 accident and emergency (A&E) department that provides routine and urgent primary care for minor ailments and injuries (sprains for example) and can be routinely accessed without appointment. A walk-in centre may be doctor led or nurse led. It may be co-located with a major A&E or sited in the community.
