Question to the Home Office:
To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, how many people were identified by Safer Neighbourhood teams in each police area in England and Wales in each of the last 10 years as holding extremist views or participating in extremist activity, and what steps were taken in each case.
The Home Office does not hold this information.
The police in England and Wales do not judge ‘extremism’ to be either a criminal or civil offence. As a consequence they do not collect or store the data within the parameters requested.
New criminal offences may be considered by the Counter Extremism Commission.
