Equality: Codes of Practice

Question

To ask the Minister for Women and Equalities, what legal advice was sought and received on whether the draft Equality Act 2010 Code of Practice for Services, Public Functions and Associations fulfils the statutory purpose set out in section 14 of the Equality Act 2006 before laying it before Parliament.

The Government does not comment on legal advice it may have received. We have always been clear that there is a due process that needs to be followed by all.

The draft Code was laid in Parliament by SoS on 21 May 2026. A Written Ministerial Statement was made on 21 May confirming that the Code had been laid. There is now a 40-day period that allows for Parliamentary scrutiny as set out in the Equality Act 2006.
