In March 2015 the Coalition Government agreed £700,000 funding for an Electrically Assisted Pedal Cycle sharing pilot in England as a means of testing the appetite for such schemes. The Department for Transport is currently evaluating the outcomes of the pilot and will continue to work with stakeholders to consider new initiatives that will encourage the uptake of electric bikes.

The Office for Low Emission Vehicles is working to encourage the transition from internal combustion engines to cleaner electric vehicles, the £35 million boost for ultra-low emission vehicles announced on 13th October will be focussed on that objective.
