Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, what reports he has received on the treatment of the Tutsi people in Burundi.

We have been unable to identify any clear evidence of the specific targeting of Tutsi groups, however, it is the Tutsi-majority areas of the capital Bujumbura that have seen the most significant street protests and violence.

We are also deeply concerned by instances of ethnically-charged language, as noted in the September 2016 report of the United Nations Independent Investigation on Burundi. Our officials continue to monitor this closely.
