We are currently considering all responses to our recent consultation on proposals to ensure that early years funding is allocated efficiently and fairly across the country.

One of our proposals is to require local authorities to pass 95% of their early years funding through to frontline providers every year. This will ensure that the vast majority of funds allocated to local authorities are used for early years provision, and in the year for which they are allocated.

As we implement our proposals, we will closely monitor and review the impact of our reforms to ensure that local authorities and providers are able to deliver the childcare entitlements in a sustainable way.
