Question to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government:
To ask the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, what estimate he has made of the number of properties purchased under the right-to-buy scheme which are now in the private rental sector.
The Government does not monitor the resale of these properties. Where a Right to Buy owner wishes to sell their home within the first 5 years of purchasing it, they are obliged to inform their former landlord and pay back a proportion of the discount. Otherwise, former social tenants who have bought their homes under Right to Buy have the same rights and freedoms as any other homeowner.
