Question to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs:

To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, pursuant to the answer on 19th May 2026 to question 1352, when her Department plans to complete its review on the inclusion of Battery Energy Storage Solutions within the Environmental Permitting Regulations; and when any resulting regulatory changes will come into force.

Defra is continuing policy work on including Battery Energy Storage Systems as an activity under the Environmental Permitting Regulations. Officials are engaging with key stakeholders from industry and wider government as part of the policy process.
