Question to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs:
To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, what assessment her Department has made of the adequacy of the current bathing water designation process.
Following stakeholder feedback highlighting limitations in the previous one-size-fits-all approach, the Department updated the Bathing Water Regulations 2013 in November 2025 to improve how bathing waters are designated and monitored. The changes better reflect how the public uses bathing waters, while continuing to support public health through water quality monitoring.
