Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:

To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, whether she has assessed the potential merits of amending the General Medical Services contract to include the completion of DVLA medical assessment forms as a commissioned service within core GP contract arrangements.

We have previously considered including the completion of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency’s (DVLA) medical assessment forms within the core GP Contract, however as this was considered non-clinical work, this was not added to the contract. Instead, the DVLA is responsible for arranging and paying for the completion of DVLA medical assessment forms in line with the terms of their agreement with the British Medical Association regarding fees for the completion of these forms.
