Question to the Department for Transport:

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, whether her Department plans to allow Ukrainian-qualified HGV drivers to work as HGV drivers in the UK.

We recognise how important it is for Ukrainian-qualified HGV drivers to be able to use their skills and experience in the UK. Under current legislation, however, only car driving licence entitlements from Ukraine can be exchanged.

The government recognises the value of mutual recognition arrangements that cover lorry and bus licence categories. Developing these arrangements will take time. In the meantime, the existing car licence exchange continues to provide immediate and significant benefits to citizens.
