Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, whether he has had discussions with the Envoy for Complex Consular Detentions on securing the release of Eman el-Shazly from detention in Egypt.

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office is supporting the family of British-Egyptian dual national Eman el-Shazly and has raised her case with the Egyptian authorities, including requesting consular access and pressing for appropriate treatment and due process. We will continue to actively engage the Egyptian authorities. The Envoy for Complex Consular Detentions has been briefed on the case.
