Question to the Ministry of Justice:

To ask the Secretary of State for Justice, what assessment he has made of the potential impact of staff turnover and changes of allocated workers on continuity of support and reoffending, and whether this will be measured under the new youth justice standards.

The Ministry of Justice does not routinely collect specific data on staff turnover or changes of allocated workers in youth justice services.

However, the Government recognises the importance of a skilled workforce and continuity of support in reducing offending in the youth justice system.

This year, the Government introduced three-year core grant funding settlements (£93.6 million a year for the next three years) to youth justice services, providing greater certainty to plan ahead, invest in their workforce and deliver consistent, effective support to children.

In July 2026, the Department published a consultation on reforms to the oversight and funding of youth justice services, including proposed changes to the youth justice standards. Decisions on the content of national standards will be set out as part of the Government response later this year.
