Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:
To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, whether he has plans to deregulate the sale of the over-the-counter emergency contraceptive pills for women.
The Government has no specific plans to deregulate the sale of over-the-counter emergency contraceptive pills for women.
Emergency contraceptive pills are currently available without prescription from pharmacies. Any applications to make them available on general sale from other retail outlets would be considered in accordance with the Government’s usual procedures by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency.
