The British Government has formally notified the Iranian Government of the Foreign Secretary’s decision to exercise diplomatic protection in the case of Mrs Zaghari-Ratcliffe. The decision represents formal recognition that Mrs Zaghari-Ratcliffe’s treatment fails to meet Iran’s obligations under International Law. We have not made representations to the UN Security Council on these matters.
