All schools must adhere to health and safety legislation. The employer in a school must take reasonable steps to ensure that staff and pupils are not exposed to risks to their health and safety by ensuring that a risk assessment is conducted and measures put in place to minimise any known risks. The Department for Education and the health and safety executive provide advice and guidance to schools about pupil health and safety, and risk assessment. Schools should also ensure they have a designated safeguarding lead to provide support, advice and expertise to staff on matters of safety and safeguarding.
