Question to the Department for Transport:
To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, for what reason the speed limit west on the M3 beyond the M25 junction has been set at 50 mph.
This question was answered on 10th November 2014
The speed limit of 50 mph was set in 2009 to allow safe merging of vehicles, especially HGVs, which need to move from lane 3 into lane 1 at the end of the M25/M3 merge.
