The Care Quality Commission (CQC) is the independent regulator of health and adult social care providers in England.

The CQC has provided the following information.

For the purpose of this question, the CQC has defined legal action by care providers as action that has passed the permission stage for judicial reviews and cases where claims have been issued that have gone to a full hearing and have not been struck out, dismissed after summary judgment or where there has been a consent order between the parties. The CQC has also taken legal action to mean successful applications for injunctions.
