Question

To ask the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, pursuant to the Answer of 10 April 2014, Official Report, column 312W, on building regulations, what assessment he has made of the cybersecurity implications of the Building Information Modelling Smart City project.

The next phase of the Building Information Modelling (BIM) programme will include provision for data interaction between designs created using BIM and other interfaces, such as Smart Cities. The potential for this to give rise to security issues has been considered as part of the base design, and this phase will incorporate a secure but workable approach developed in conjunction with partners inside and outside of Government.
