Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:

To ask the Secretary of State for Health, what assessment his Department made of the effect of the Innovation Health and Wealth report, published in December 2011, on innovation in the NHS.

The Department is funding RAND Europe and the University of Manchester to conduct a formative and summative evaluation of Innovation, Health and Wealth. The project is expected to complete in 2017 and the report on the first stage of the evaluation is due to be published imminently. Further details can be found on the RAND Europe website:

Since the publication of Creating Change: Innovation, Health and Wealth one year on in 2012, there has been a great deal of progress made in many of the IHW work streams. Much of this has been incorporated into NHS England’s Innovation Into Action: Supporting delivery of the NHS Five Year Funding View, published in September 2015 and can be found at:
