Question to the Cabinet Office:

To ask the Minister for the Cabinet Office, what steps the Government is taking to ensure the timely drafting of statutory instruments relating to the 2019 voter ID pilots; and whether the Government has put in place a target date by which it plans to have published those instruments.

The Government is committed to making sure that our electoral system is fit for the future. Vulnerabilities cannot be allowed to undermine the integrity of our democracy.

To have a deeper understanding of how voter ID will work on a wider scale and what works best for voters, we plan to continue to pilot voter ID at next year’s local elections. A provisional timetable for the 2019 pilots including consultation on and completion of the enabling statutory instruments can be found at:
