A core objective of the new UK Infrastructure Bank will be to tackle climate change, and in particular to support the transition to net zero by 2050. The Bank will focus on the economic infrastructure sectors covered by the National Infrastructure Strategy, which includes transport, and will make case-by-case assessments on the merits of individual projects.

As the Bank is established, my department will work with HM Treasury to assess its role in supporting rail decarbonisation.
