Defra has not carried out a recent assessment of the effect on the environment of reducing meat consumption nationally.

Defra has previously commissioned research to assess the environmental and socioeconomic impacts of sustainable diets. This research considered a reduction of meat consumption as a variable for some scenarios alongside a number of other variables of the diet.
