Families of young people who have severe mental health problems will receive different types of support, depending on the specific needs of that young person. This support will be commissioned locally and could include family therapy; provision of information about how to support the young person; support groups for parents and jointly agreed crisis plans.

The degree of involvement in issues regarding treatment will need to take into account the preferences and wishes of the young person and the degree to which they have capacity to consent to parental involvement.
