Government has worked closely with the voluntary sector to assess the impact of leaving the EU, including how the sector’s workforce may be affected. The National Council for Voluntary Organisations estimate that, as of June 2016, 38,000 of the 853,000 paid employees in the voluntary sector were EU nationals (4%).

Government has secured an agreement with the EU that will guarantee the status of EU nationals living in the EU, reached and set out in the Withdrawal Agreement text. This provides EU nationals, including those working in the voluntary sector, with certainty about their rights going forward.
