Question to the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy:
To ask the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, what assessment he has made of the effect on the energy bills of (a) households and (b) businesses of the requirement for energy suppliers to pay EU transmission charges for access to the EU’s internal energy market after the UK leaves the EU.
Maintaining affordable energy supplies for both the UK and the EU is a key objective of the Future Economic Partnership being sought by the UK.
We want to continue arrangements that allow efficient trade of electricity to take place between the EU and the UK. However, the future trade agreement will be decided in negotiations, and we are unable to comment on these arrangements until negotiations conclude.
