Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, whether he has made representations to his counterpart in the Peruvian Government on the decision to pardon former President Alberto Fujimori for human rights abuses during his tenure as President.

I have not discussed this specific case with my counterpart. The power to grant pardons is provided for by the Peruvian constitution. I note that the Inter-American Court of Human Rights is undertaking an independent investigation into the decision. We are clear that the rule of law must be respected.
