Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, what assessment he has made of the political situation in Peru following the resignation of President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski.

We have been following the recent political events in Peru closely. The political situation has now stabilised and markets have not been substantially affected. The new President, Martin Vizcarra, and his cabinet have received broad political support. The UK has an excellent relationship with Peru, one that spans almost 200 years. We are close partners in a wide range of areas, including trade, science and innovation, education, and foreign policy. We remain committed to strengthening these ties further by working closely with the new government
