Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:
To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what recent estimate he has made of the annual cost to the NHS of treating sickle cell anaemia.
The most recent figures from an NHS England annual collection exercise estimated that the expenditure to treat patients with sickle cell disease, including anaemias, was approximately £41.6 million for 2015/16 and £41.5 million for 2016/17. The value for 2017/18 is not yet available.
