Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:
To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what estimate he has made of the cost to the NHS of alcohol misuse in each of the last five years.
Unit costs of healthcare in hospitals are available at the level of treatments and procedures but it is not always possible to show if these are alcohol related so the exact costs annually are unknown. However, it is estimated that the cost to the National Health Service in England from alcohol misuse are around £3.5 billion each year.
