To ask the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, with reference to action number 1.2 on page 21 of Upgrading Our Energy System Smart Systems and Flexibility Plan, published in July 2017, when the Government plans to amend the Electricity Act 1989 in line with that action.

In the Smart Systems and Flexibility Plan, the Government committed to amend the Electricity Act 1989 to define electricity storage as a distinct subset of generation. We committed to do this when parliamentary time allows. This is an important measure to improve regulatory clarity for electricity storage, and one that we will honour.
