Question to the Cabinet Office:

To ask the Minister for the Cabinet Office, whether his Department plans to review the appointment of Regional Returning Officers.

In each of the 12 electoral regions used for the purposes of European Parliamentary elections in the United Kingdom and Gibraltar there is a Regional Returning Officer who is responsible for the overall conduct of the election of MEPs in their electoral region. Once the UK has left the European Union, we will no longer take part in European Parliamentary elections. We intend to repeal the legislation governing European Parliamentary elections and therefore the role of Regional Returning Officer for these polls will no longer exist.
