The Government is taking the issue of cycle theft seriously and will be considering a range of measures to tackle this crime through the Department for Transport’s cycling and walking plan for England. The £25m Safer Streets Fund, announced by my Rt hon Friend, the Home Secretary, on 1 October 2019, is actively supporting areas that are persistently and disproportionately affected by high levels of acquisitive crime, including bicycle theft. A number of Police and Crime Commissioners in receipt of the fund have targeted and invested in projects preventing bicycle theft in hotspot areas. These include providing and promoting secure cycle storage locations, high quality bike locks, and property marking.
