Question to the Department for International Development:
To ask the Secretary of State for International Development, what steps her Department is taking to support post-hurricane relief in the the British Virgin Islands and Anguilla.
DFID has played a prominent part in the cross-government effort to support the three Overseas Territories of Anguilla, the British Virgin Islands and the Turks and Caicos Islands most affected by Hurricanes Irma and Maria. More than 800 tonnes of aid was delivered to provide immediate relief in the region, and equipment and personnel were deployed to assist with repairs. The Prime Minister further reaffirmed the UK’s intention to stand by the Overseas Territories when she announced a new £70 million package of reconstruction support, supplemented by up to £300 million of UK loan guarantees to access finance.
