Question to the Ministry of Justice:

To ask the Secretary of State for Justice, how many (a) Magistrate court days there have been and (b) Magistrate Court trials have been listed in each of the last 12 months.

(a) Her Majesty’s Courts and Tribunals Service (HMCTS), management information systems for magistrates’ courts record data by session not daily sittings. Magistrates’ courts list each day into two sessions (am and pm) which when combined are reported as the equivalent of one day’s sitting. This is provided in the table below.

(b) While data on magistrates’ trials in England and Wales is published, the requested data, in a monthly format, is not available in the public domain. However, the following has been provided in the table below specifically for this response.
