In terms of assessing risk for the purposes of insurance underwriting on each helicopter model licensed for commercial operation in the offshore oil and gas sector since January 2009, neither the Department for Transport nor the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) holds this information as any assessment of the passenger risk profile is a matter for the insurance industry rather than the Government. Nevertheless the safety of those who rely on offshore helicopter flights is an absolute priority and the CAA continues to work with helicopter operators, offshore industries, international regulators, unions and pilot representatives to enhance offshore safety standards.
