The Government wants to see all cars and vans move to zero emission as soon as possible. We have consulted on ending the sale of new petrol, diesel and hybrid cars and vans by 2035, or earlier if a faster transition appears feasible.

We want to lead the way in this transition, which is why the Government has committed that 100% of the central Government car fleet will be ultra low emission vehicles by 2030, with an interim target of 25% by 2022.

The Government Car Service is already electrifying its vehicles, with nearly 50% of their fleet either full battery electric or plug-in hybrid.
