HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has a project underway looking at the business readiness for the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which will be become law on 25 May 2018. It has appointed a Data Protection Officer, which is a mandatory position in public authorities, whose role is to advise HMRC on the actions necessary to ensure GDPR compliance, act as a first point of contact for regulators and for individuals whose data is processed.
