Question to the Department for Energy Security & Net Zero:
To ask the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, what assessment his Department has made of the impact of current timelines for the implementation of a transitional support mechanism for landfill gas operators set out in the Methane Action Plan on site closures.
Government recognises that the expiry of Renewables Obligation support from April 2027 could affect the commercial viability of some generators in the landfill gas to electricity sector. DESNZ is progressing the development of a potential transitional support scheme, as set out in the Methane Action Plan. This includes actively engaging with generators to assess the continued need for subsidy and the impacts of any gap in its provision. Although no final decisions have been made, we intend to consult on our detailed policy proposals in the coming months.
