Set a firm launch date for Alternative Student Finance (ASF) and the LLE

We call on the Government to publish a dated timeline for the launch of Alternative Student Finance (ASF), confirm exactly how it will work alongside the Lifelong Learning Entitlement (LLE), and guarantee that students who take out standard loans for 2026 can transition onto ASF without penalty.

The Government first committed to introducing Alternative Student Finance in 2014. More than ten years later, there is still no launch date. The current position is only that ASF will be introduced "as soon as possible" after the Lifelong Learning Entitlement, with no firm date attached to that promise. This is not a request for special treatment. It is a request for a firm date and clear information on a scheme the Government has already promised to deliver.
