Introduce a higher, sector-specific Minimum Wage for HGV Drivers (C, C+E).

While the National Living Wage has increased, "middle wages" for HGV drivers have stagnated. We call on the Government to conduct a review into HGV driver pay. The goal is to restore the shortened pay gap between HGV roles and the National Living Wage.

The high cost of acquiring licenses, coupled with long hours, intense concentration, and the legal risks involved, means there is currently little incentive for young people to enter the profession, especially when the pay gap between the National Minimum wage is so small.

To ensure national supply chain security and attract the next generation of drivers, the Government must ensure that HGV pay reflects the professional status and the heavy burden of responsibility these workers carry.
